MASS - The History

Thanks to Joe Kokesh for the following:

* M * A * S * S * History

In February I decided that since my scooter was still in California after riding Route 66, that I was going to go out and race with the American Scooter Racing Association.
After finding some leathers to borrow, and finding a cheap plane ticket (thanks Priceline!), I headed out for the races. After one practice lap I knew I was hooked. I decided that as often as I could afford, I would fly out to California and race. The more I started thinking about it, the more I thought “Damn, I should get this started in the midwest so I don’t have to travel so far.”

For years I had heard of people supposedly trying to get racing started in the east, to no avail. So as soon as I got back to St. Louis I started making calls and e-mails trying to see who would let us race with them. I contacted many racing organizations, and two responded fairly quickly: Champion Cup Series and Ohio YSR League. I decided that I would go check out how things were run at the races and talk to the race directors.

To make a long story short, I decided that CCS was the best deal for the time being. Now all I had to do was find people willing to spend the money to get their bikes and themselves ready to race.
I set up an E groups mailing list and started to spread the word. It all took off from there.
We are now also going to race with the OYL. CCS told us that we will be given more races next year, and it is starting to take off. This year we will have only 3 races, hopefully next year we will have at least 6.
If anyone is interested in racing with M*A*S*S* contact me at HardLuck7@aol.com. If you are on the left coast and want to race with the A.S.R.A. contact Vince at TAFFSPEED@aol.com. Hope to see many new people at the races next season.
